Blog 3: Optional
Hi, everyone in this blog I am going to talk about my favorite social worker. She is Mary Ellen Richmond (1861- 1928), she was an american social work pioneer.
She studied to be a "friendly visitor" which was the first concept for a social worker. She started visited the homes of people in precarious situations and tried to help to change that situation and she began to develop many ideas of how social workers could best be conducted to help people. She was connecting with a organization called "Charity Organized Society" and during that time she demonstrated her qualities as a leader, teacher, and practical theorist.
She had the idea of turning the social work into a formal work; she created techniques, systems, contents and theories of social work inclined towards the formation of a discipline. For that she is one of the most important, loved and studied pionner of social work.
Mary Richmond is my favorite because she is the perfect example of a revolutionary woman in that century because she had the desire to finish with the inequality and poverty. That was one of the things that inspired me to study social work
